Frequently Asked Questions
Counseling: What Is It and What Should I expect?
Mental Health Counseling is a collaborative approach between the client and the therapist were your needs will be the main focus of the the sessions. We'll concentrate on creating therapy goals as well as strategies for getting started on them. You might occasionally be asked to do an exercise outside of session to put in practice what is discussed in our meetings, and may be recommended to other resources available, depending on the case.
Counseling has been proven to enhance your relationships, increase your level of self-awareness, and directly tackle the concerns that brought you to therapy in the first place..
Ultimately, the overall goal of the therapist is to improve the quality of life of the client by combining different tools that will translate to the client's life even after sessions are terminated.
Do I Actually Need Therapy?
The question to ask is "Are you ready to become the best version of yourself?". I feel very strong about "everyone benefits from therapy" because any form of mental or emotional disturbance you may be experiencing can be treated and healed through therapy, which is essentially a process of personal growth and self-improvement and the turnaround has been shown to have a direct impact in your overall quality of life. Just like your Physical Health may not be at it's best at times and you visit the doctor for guidance and relief, your Mental Health should be treated with the same priority.
What is Confidentiality? Will you share anything about me to others?
Therapy guarantees a judgement free and safe environment for the client. Everything you discuss during our counseling sessions is private, in other words, what you share with me will stay between us, it is confidential. The rule of confidentiality does, however, have some exceptions and the only way I will break confidentiality as mandated by law is to report the following:
Threat to Self
Threat to Others
Suspected or known Child and/or Elderly abuse
What is the cost of counseling?
Whereas many clients may be initially concerned about their ability to pay for psychotherapy, my philosophy, which most clients agree, is that therapy is an investment for your future and just like any investment you make in yourself, you expect a positive turnaround. Therapy has been shown successful in achieving that positive turnaround you are searching for. What is a better investment than investing in yourself?
